Prepare

## Ingredients

- **4** rice paper sheets
- **4** sheets of nori seaweed
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- **1 cup** fresh salmon fillet, cubed
- **2 tbsp** mayonnaise
- **1 tbsp** sriracha sauce (or any other hot sauce)
- **1 tsp** soy sauce
- **1 tsp** lemon juice
- **1 cup** shredded lettuce
- Lime wedges, for serving

Cook

## Instructions

1. Prepare the salmon mixture by combining salmon cubes, mayonnaise, sriracha sauce, soy sauce, and lemon juice in a bowl. Mix well until the ingredients are thoroughly combined. Set aside.

2. Take a large rice paper sheet and soak it in warm water until it becomes pliable. Remove it from the water and place it on a clean, damp kitchen towel. Lay a sheet of nori seaweed on top of the rice paper. Gently press down to help them stick together. Cut put the circles.

3. Heat vegetable oil in a pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Carefully place the rice paper-nori circles into the hot oil and fry for about 1-2 minutes on each side, or until they turn golden and crispy. Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.

4. Assemble the tacos. Place salmon mixture onto the center of each taco shell. Add shredded lettuce. Serve the crispy salmon tacos immediately with lime wedges on the side for an added burst of citrus flavor. Enjoy!

## Chef's Tips & Notes

- Use sushi-grade salmon for this recipe since it’s served raw. Keep the salmon chilled until just before mixing to maintain freshness and the best texture.
- When frying the rice paper-nori shells, make sure the oil is hot enough — they should puff up and turn golden within 1–2 minutes per side. If they take longer, the oil needs to be hotter.
- Assemble the tacos right before serving to keep the shells crispy. The shells soften quickly once filled, so have all your components ready for quick assembly.

### What are these salmon tacos made of?

These salmon tacos are made with the following ingredients, each contributing to the delicious flavors and textures:

1. Salmon: The star ingredient of these tacos is fresh salmon. It can be cubed or thinly sliced, providing a tender and flavorful seafood component. Salmon is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, protein, and various vitamins and minerals, making it a nutritious choice.
2. Mayonnaise: Mayonnaise adds creaminess and richness to the salmon mixture. It helps bind the flavors together and adds a smooth texture to the filling.
3. Sriracha Sauce: Sriracha sauce brings a spicy kick and a tangy flavor to the salmon mixture. It adds a delightful heat that complements the salmon’s taste and adds an extra layer of complexity.
4. Soy Sauce: Soy sauce contributes a savory and umami flavor to the salmon mixture. It enhances the overall taste profile and adds depth to the dish.
5. Lettuce: Shredded lettuce is used as an additional topping for these tacos.
6. Rice Paper: Rice paper is used as a wrapper for the tacos. It becomes pliable when soaked in water and can be folded or rolled to create a taco shape. Rice paper adds a delicate and slightly chewy texture to the tacos.
7. Nori Seaweed: Nori seaweed is placed on top of the rice paper before frying. It imparts a hint of oceanic flavor and adds a slight crispness to the outer layer of the tacos.
8. Vegetable Oil: Vegetable oil is used for frying the rice paper and nori circles, resulting in a crispy and golden texture. It helps achieve the desired crunchiness of the tacos.

### How to make salmon tacos?

Prepare the salmon mixture by combining cubes of salmon, mayonnaise, sriracha sauce, soy sauce, and lemon juice in a bowl. Mix thoroughly until well combined. Set the mixture aside. Soak a large rice paper sheet in warm water until it becomes pliable. Remove it from the water and place it on a clean, damp kitchen towel. Place a sheet of nori seaweed on top of the rice paper. Gently press down to adhere them together. Cut out circles from the combined rice paper and nori. Heat vegetable oil in a pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Carefully place the rice paper-nori circles into the hot oil and fry for about 1–2 minutes on each side, or until they turn golden and crispy.

Remove the circles from the oil and drain them on paper towels. To assemble the tacos, place shredded lettuce into the shells. Spread the salmon mixture onto the lettuce and sprinkle with some mixed sesame seeds. Serve the crispy salmon tacos immediately with lime wedges on the side for a tangy citrus flavor. Enjoy this delicious dish!

### What is a good side dish for salmon tacos?

To complement the flavors of crispy salmon tacos, you can pair them with a variety of side dishes that add freshness, balance, and additional textures. Here are some excellent side dish options:

1. **Cabbage Slaw:** A crunchy cabbage slaw with a tangy dressing provides a refreshing and crisp texture that complements the crispy tacos. Try [Cabbage Slaw with Apples and Raisins](/recipes/cabbage-salad-with-apples/).
2. **Avocado Salad:** A simple avocado salad with diced ripe avocados adds a smooth and buttery contrast. Try [Mango, Avocado and Blue Cheese Salad](/recipes/mango-avocado-blue-cheese-salad/).
3. Mango Salsa: A vibrant and fruity mango salsa with diced mangoes, red onions, jalapenos, cilantro, lime juice, and a pinch of salt. The salsa adds a burst of sweetness and a hint of tanginess that pairs well with the salmon.
4. Jicama Slaw: A jicama slaw made with julienned jicama, carrots, bell peppers, and a zesty lime dressing. The jicama provides a crisp and slightly sweet element that adds a refreshing crunch to the meal.
5. Cilantro Lime Rice: Fragrant and fluffy cilantro lime rice made by cooking rice with fresh cilantro and lime juice. It adds a zesty and aromatic side dish that pairs well with the tacos.

Choose one or a combination of these side dishes to create a well-rounded meal that complements the flavors and textures of the crispy salmon tacos. These options provide a balance of freshness, tanginess, crunch, and vibrant flavors that will elevate your dining experience.

### Substitutions & Variations

As a personal chef who specializes in dietary accommodations, I always encourage my clients to adapt recipes to their individual needs. Here are some practical variations for this recipe:

- **Dairy-Free:** This recipe is already dairy-free as written — no butter, milk, or cheese are used.
- **Soy-Free:** Replace soy sauce with coconut aminos for a soy-free alternative that still delivers rich umami flavor.
- **Spice Level:** Reduce sriracha to 1 teaspoon for a milder version, or increase to 2 tablespoons and add a pinch of cayenne for extra heat.

### Frequently Asked Questions

****Can I use cooked salmon instead of raw?****

Yes! Bake or pan-sear the salmon first, then flake it and mix with the sriracha-mayo sauce. The tacos will have a different but equally delicious warm filling.

****How do I keep the taco shells from getting soggy?****

Assemble the tacos right before serving. You can fry the shells ahead of time and store them in an airtight container at room temperature, but add the filling only at the last minute to maintain crispiness.

****Can I use regular taco shells instead?****

The nori rice paper shells are part of what makes this recipe special, but in a pinch, you can use crispy corn tortillas or wonton wrappers fried into cup shapes as an alternative.
