## Chef's Tips & Notes

- Chill your cookie dough for at least 30 minutes before baking. Cold dough spreads less, producing thicker cookies with better texture and more concentrated flavor.
- Use an oven thermometer — even 10°F off can mean the difference between perfectly golden and overdone cookies.
- Rotate your baking sheet halfway through for even browning. Remove cookies when the edges are set but the centers still look slightly under-done; they will firm up as they cool.

### What are these crumble cookies made of?

Blueberry crumble cookies are made of a combination of wholesome ingredients such as:

- Oats and oat flour: Oats are a rich source of dietary fiber, vitamins, and minerals. In this recipe, oats are used to add texture and structure to the cookies. Oats also contain vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, which can provide many health benefits such as improved digestion, reduced risk of heart disease, and increased satiety.
- Almond flour: Almond flour is a gluten-free flour that is high in protein and healthy fats. In this recipe, almond flour is used to add a nutty flavor and richness to the cookies.
- Baking powder: Baking powder is a leavening agent that helps the cookies to rise and become fluffy.
- Coconut oil: Coconut oil is a healthy fat that adds moisture and richness to the cookies.
- Maple syrup or honey: Maple syrup or honey are natural sweeteners that add sweetness to the cookies without using refined sugar. If you prefer vegan option, use maple syrup instead of honey.
- Vanilla extract: Vanilla extract adds flavor and depth to the cookies.
- Blueberries: Blueberries are low-calorie fruit that are high in antioxidants and vitamins. In this recipe, blueberries add a burst of sweetness and texture to the cookies.

### Are these Crumbl Cookies healthy?

Blueberry crumble cookies made with wholesome ingredients such as oats, almond flour, coconut oil, blueberries, and natural sweeteners like maple syrup or honey can be considered a healthier alternative to traditional cookies that are made with refined flour, sugar, and unhealthy fats. The oats and almond flour in the cookies provide a good source of fiber, protein, and healthy fats, which can help to keep you feeling full and satisfied. Blueberries are also a good source of antioxidants, which can help to protect your body against damage from free radicals. The use of natural sweeteners like maple syrup or honey instead of refined sugar is also a healthier choice. Refined sugar is known to be linked to several health problems, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease.

### Is this Crumbl cookie vegan?

The blueberry crumble cookies can be made vegan-friendly by using maple syrup instead of honey in this recipe. The rest of the ingredients used, such as the oats and almond flour are also vegan-friendly and do not contain any animal-derived products.

### How to make Healthy Blueberry Crumble Cookies?

Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a large bowl, whisk together the oats, oat flour, almond flour and baking powder. In a separate bowl, mix together the melted coconut oil, maple syrup or honey, and vanilla extract. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined. The dough should be crumbly but keep together if pressed with the hands.

### How to keep blueberry crumble cookies fresh?

To keep cookies fresh and maintain their texture and flavor, there are several things you can do:

1. Store in an airtight container: Once the cookies have cooled completely, store them in an airtight container. This will help to prevent air and moisture from getting in, which can cause the cookies to become stale.
2. Add a piece of bread: Adding a piece of bread to the container can help to absorb any excess moisture and keep the cookies fresh. Replace the bread as needed.
3. Store at room temperature: Store the cookies at room temperature in a cool, dry place. Avoid storing them in direct sunlight or in a warm environment, as this can cause the cookies to become soft and lose their texture.
4. Separate layers with parchment paper: If you need to stack the cookies in the container, place a piece of parchment paper between each layer to prevent the cookies from sticking together.

By following these tips, you can keep your cookies fresh and delicious for several days or even weeks.

### Substitutions & Variations

As a personal chef who specializes in dietary accommodations, I always encourage my clients to adapt recipes to their individual needs. Here are some practical variations for this recipe:

- **Gluten-Free:** This recipe already uses oat flour and almond flour, which are naturally gluten-free. Just make sure to use certified gluten-free oat flour to avoid cross-contamination.
- **Vegan-Friendly:** Use maple syrup instead of honey — the recipe is already egg-free and dairy-free, so this one swap makes it fully vegan.
- **Nut-Free:** Replace almond flour with an equal amount of sunflower seed flour or additional oat flour. The cookies will be slightly less rich but still delicious and crumbly.

### Frequently Asked Questions

****Can I use frozen blueberries instead of fresh?****

Yes, but do not thaw them first! Press the frozen blueberries directly into the cookie dough just before baking. Thawed blueberries release too much juice, which makes the dough soggy and the cookies spread unevenly. Frozen berries hold their shape much better during baking.

****Why did my cookies turn out flat and crumbly?****

These cookies are naturally crumbly due to the oat flour and almond flour base (no egg or traditional binder). Make sure to press the dough firmly when forming the balls, and flatten them gently. If they fall apart, the coconut oil may have been too warm — try chilling the dough for 15–20 minutes before shaping.

****Can I substitute other berries for blueberries?****

Absolutely! Raspberries, diced strawberries, or blackberries all work well. Just keep the pieces small so they press into the cookies easily. Dried cranberries or chopped dried cherries are also great alternatives that add a chewy texture and tangy sweetness.
