## Chef's Tips & Notes

- For the best texture, bring your salmon to room temperature for 10–15 minutes before cooking. This ensures perfectly even cooking and prevents the outside from overcooking while the center stays cold — a technique I picked up during my years in professional kitchens.
- Use a meat thermometer to check doneness: salmon is perfectly cooked at an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C). Pull it from the heat a few degrees early, as residual heat will carry it the rest of the way.
- Pat the salmon completely dry with paper towels before seasoning or searing. Removing surface moisture is the single most important step for achieving a golden, crispy crust.

## Chef Ana's Recipe Notes

The salmon with strawberry salsa recipe is a unique and delicious combination that brings together the savory flavors of the fish with the sweet and tangy taste of the fruit! This salmon with strawberry salsa has a delicate and bright taste that is perfect for spring and summer months. It’s an excellent option for those who want to try something new and adventurous while still enjoying a classic seafood dish.

### What are the 6 types of salsa?

There are many types of salsa, but here are six standard varieties:

1. Pico de gallo salsa: A chunky salsa made with chopped tomatoes, onions, and cilantro, seasoned with lime juice and salt.
2. Salsa verde: A green salsa made with tomatillos, green chili peppers, cilantro, garlic, and lime juice.
3. Mango salsa: A sweet and spicy salsa made with fresh mango, red onions, jalapeño peppers, and lime juice.
4. Roasted tomato salsa: A smoky and flavorful salsa made with roasted tomatoes, garlic, onion, and chili peppers.
5. Pineapple salsa: A fruity salsa made with fresh pineapple, red onion, cilantro, and lime juice, often with jalapeño peppers for a spicy kick.
6. Strawberry salsa: A sweet and tangy salsa made with fresh strawberries, red onion, cilantro, lime juice, and honey or agave nectar for added sweetness.

These salsas can be used as dips for chips or vegetables, or as toppings for various dishes such as tacos, burritos, salads, and grilled meats or seafood. In this exact recipe, we make Strawberry salsa for our baked salmon!

### What Salmon with Strawberry Salsa made of?

This Salmon recipe includes the following ingredients:

- Fresh salmon fillets: These are seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic powder and olive oil, and then baked in the oven. Salmon is a great source of many key nutrients, including selenium, phosphorus, and B vitamins.
- Fresh strawberries: These are chopped into small pieces and mixed with the other salsa ingredients.
- Red onion: This adds a crisp texture and a bit of a bite to the salsa.
- Cilantro: This fresh herb adds a bright and refreshing flavor to the dish.
- Lime juice: This provides acidity to the salsa and helps to balance the sweetness of the strawberries.
- Honey or agave nectar: This is added to the salsa to enhance the sweetness of the strawberries and balance the acidity of the lime juice.
- Seasoning: salt, pepper and chili flakes to add some spiciness.

Once the fillets are cooked, they are topped with strawberry salsa and served immediately. This dish is often accompanied by a side of roasted vegetables or a fresh green salad.

### What is the best seasoning to put on salmon with strawberry salsa?

When it comes to seasoning salmon, it’s best to keep it simple so as not to overpower the delicate flavors of the fish and fruit. Here are some seasoning options that can complement the dish:

- Salt and pepper: A simple seasoning of salt and pepper can enhance the natural flavor of the salmon and allow the sweetness of the strawberry salsa to shine.
- Garlic powder: A sprinkle of garlic powder can add a subtle savory note to the dish, which can help to balance out the sweetness of the salsa.
- Dried herbs: A blend of dried herbs such as dill, parsley, or thyme can provide a light and fragrant seasoning that complements the salmon and strawberry flavors.

In this exact recipe of salmon, I use salt, pepper and garlic powder.

### Substitutions & Variations

As a personal chef who specializes in dietary accommodations, I always encourage my clients to adapt recipes to their individual needs. Here are some practical variations for this recipe:

- **Gluten-Free:** This recipe is naturally gluten-free! All ingredients — salmon, strawberries, onion, cilantro, lime juice, honey, and seasonings — are free of gluten. No substitutions needed.
- **Dairy-Free:** This recipe is naturally dairy-free as written. There are no dairy products in any of the ingredients.
- **Vegetarian/Vegan:** For a plant-based version, substitute the salmon with thick-cut extra-firm tofu or cauliflower steaks. Season and bake them the same way for a hearty base under the strawberry salsa.
- **Vegan-Friendly:** Swap honey for pure maple syrup or agave nectar in equal amounts. Both provide a similar sweetness profile without compromising the dish’s overall flavor.

### Frequently Asked Questions

****Can I use frozen strawberries for the salsa?****

Fresh strawberries are strongly recommended for this salsa because they hold their shape and provide the best texture. Frozen strawberries release too much liquid as they thaw, which will make the salsa watery and dilute the flavors. If fresh are unavailable, try diced mango or pineapple as an alternative fruit salsa.

****Can I make the strawberry salsa ahead of time?****

Yes! The salsa can be prepared up to 4–6 hours in advance and stored in the refrigerator. The flavors actually improve as they meld. Give it a quick stir before spooning over the salmon. Avoid making it more than a day ahead, as the strawberries will begin to break down.

****What other fruits work well in a salsa for salmon?****

Mango, pineapple, peach, and even diced watermelon all make excellent fruit salsas for salmon. The key is choosing a fruit that provides a sweet-tart balance to complement the savory, rich flavor of the fish. Dice the fruit into small, even pieces for the best texture.

****How do I know when the salmon is done baking?****

Salmon is done when it flakes easily with a fork and the internal temperature reaches 145°F (63°C). The flesh should appear opaque throughout. For a more tender, restaurant-style result, pull it from the oven a few degrees early — residual heat will finish the job.
