What is Blueberry Feta Salad made of?
A blueberry feta salad is made of a mixture of ingredients that include:
- Arugula: A type of leafy green with a slightly bitter taste.
- Blueberries: Sweet and juicy berries that add a pop of color to the salad. Better to use fresh blueberries, but I have only frozen ones, so I defrosted them I’m advance. By the way, blueberries are packed with antioxidants and phytoflavinoids. These berries are also high in potassium and vitamin C, making them the top choice of doctors and nutritionists.
- Feta cheese: A tangy and creamy cheese that is crumbled into small pieces.
- Almonds: Crunchy and nutty nuts that add texture to the salad.
- Salad dressing: A dressing made of oil, vinegar and mustard, to tie all the flavors together.

What mixes well with blueberries
Blueberries are a versatile fruit that can be paired with a variety of ingredients to create delicious and balanced dishes. Some ingredients that mix well with blueberries include:
- Fruits: Other sweet and juicy fruits like strawberries, raspberries, or blackberries.
- Dairy: Creamy dairy products like yogurt, ice cream, or whipped cream.
- Nuts: Almonds, walnuts, or pecans add crunch and nuttiness.
- Herbs: Fresh herbs like mint or basil bring a bright and fresh flavor.
- Spices: Cinnamon, nutmeg, or cardamom add a warm and cozy flavor.
- Cheese: Feta, goat cheese, or ricotta cheese balances the sweetness of the blueberries.
These ingredients can be used in a variety of dishes, from smoothies and baked goods to salads and fruit compotes. The combinations are endless, and blueberries can be paired with many different ingredients to create delicious and satisfying dishes.

Substitutions & Variations
As a personal chef who specializes in dietary accommodations, I always encourage my clients to adapt recipes to their individual needs. Here are some practical variations for this recipe:
- Dairy-Free: Replace the feta with crumbled dairy-free feta or diced avocado for a creamy element. The salad is delicious without any cheese at all — the blueberries and almonds carry plenty of flavor on their own.
- Nut-Free: Swap the almonds for roasted sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds. They provide the same satisfying crunch without the allergen concern and pair beautifully with the blueberries and arugula.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use a different green instead of arugula?
Yes, baby spinach or mixed spring greens work well as substitutes. Arugula’s peppery bite is what makes this salad special, but if you find it too bitter, baby spinach offers a milder, slightly sweet base that still pairs nicely with the blueberries and feta.
Can I make the dressing ahead of time?
Absolutely. The olive oil, apple vinegar, and Dijon mustard dressing can be whisked together and stored in a sealed jar in the refrigerator for up to a week. Give it a good shake before drizzling over the salad, as the oil and vinegar will naturally separate.
What other fruits work well in this salad?
Strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, or sliced fresh figs all make excellent substitutes or additions. Pomegranate seeds are another great option during the fall and winter months, adding a similar burst of juicy sweetness and a beautiful pop of color.
