Cook the quinoa. Rinse it under running water. In a saucepan, bring the quinoa and water to a boil over high heat. Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan with a lid, and let simmer for 15-20 minutes. Once cooked, remove the quinoa from the heat and let it cool to room temperature.
In a large bowl, combine the cooled quinoa, mixed berries, diced avocado, and chopped cilantro. Toss gently to combine.
Prepare Honey Lemon Poppy Seed Dressing. Whisk together the olive oil, lemon juice, honey, Dijon mustard, poppy seeds, salt, and pepper until well combined. Drizzle the dressing over the salad and toss until everything is evenly coated. Garnish with some sliced almonds if desire and enjoy!

You can cook the quinoa and prepare the dressing up to 3 days in advance. Store them separately in the refrigerator. However, wait to cut the avocado and add the berries until just before serving — both ingredients lose their texture and color if they sit too long in the dressing.
Bulgur, farro, or couscous all work well as quinoa substitutes and pair nicely with the berries and dressing. For a grain-free option, try cauliflower rice — it keeps the salad lighter while still providing a satisfying base.
Fresh berries are best for this salad because they hold their shape and provide the ideal burst of sweetness. Frozen berries tend to release too much liquid as they thaw, which can make the salad watery and dilute the dressing. If fresh berries are out of season, thaw frozen ones on a paper towel and pat dry before adding.
