Rinse the prawns under cold water and pat them dry with a paper towel. Use a small knife to make a shallow cut along the back of the prawn and remove the dark vein. Season them lightly with salt and pepper.
In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and chili flakes and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant. Be careful not to burn them.
Increase the heat to medium-high and add the prawns to the skillet in a single layer. Cook them for about 2-3 minutes per side until they turn pink and opaque. The cooking time may vary depending on the size of the prawns.
Drizzle the fresh lemon juice over the prawns and stir to coat them evenly. Cook for an additional minute to allow the flavors to meld together.
Remove the skillet from heat. Taste the prawns and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper if needed. Transfer the butter garlic prawns to a serving dish. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and serve. Enjoy!

In everyday cooking, the terms are used interchangeably, and you can use either in this recipe. Technically, prawns are slightly larger with a different body structure, but the flavor and cooking method are virtually identical. Use whichever is freshest and most readily available at your market.
Absolutely! Thaw them completely in the refrigerator overnight or under cold running water for about 15 minutes. Pat them very dry with paper towels before cooking — excess moisture will prevent the prawns from getting a nice golden sear in the garlic butter.
Prawns are done when they turn from translucent gray to opaque pink-white and curl into a loose C-shape. This takes only 2–3 minutes per side over medium-high heat. If they curl into a tight O-shape, they’re overcooked. Remove them from heat as soon as they change color.
