In a large skillet or pan, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Add the shrimp to the hot skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes on each side, or until they turn pink and opaque. Once cooked, remove the shrimp from the pan and set them aside.
In the same skillet, add the crushed tomatoes to the skillet, stir in the orzo pasta and toast it for 1-2 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it's lightly golden.
Pour in the water, add the dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine. Bring the mixture to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and let it simmer gently for about 10-12 minutes, or until the orzo is tender and most of the liquid has been absorbed. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. Stir in the fresh spinach leaves until they wilt and are incorporated into the dish.
Return the cooked shrimp to the pan and stir them into the orzo and tomato mixture.
Pour in the heavy cream and add the grated Parmesan cheese. Stir until the sauce becomes creamy and the cheese is melted. Taste and adjust the seasoning with additional salt and black pepper if needed. Serve your one-pan creamy shrimp orzo hot and enjoy!

This one-pan creamy shrimp orzo is a flavorful and satisfying dish that’s perfect for a quick weeknight dinner.

Orzo is a type of pasta, although its shape and size may make it look more like rice. It is often referred to as “rice-shaped pasta” due to its small, oval shape, which resembles rice grains. Orzo is made from wheat semolina or durum wheat flour, which provides carbohydrates, protein, and some fiber. It’s not a significant source of vitamins or minerals, but it does offer energy and protein. Despite its rice-like appearance, orzo is indeed a pasta and is commonly used in a variety of dishes, from soups and salads to casseroles and side dishes. It has a smooth texture and a neutral flavor, making it versatile and adaptable in various recipes.

Here’s a description of each ingredient used in the One Pan Creamy Shrimp Orzo:

Once cooked, transfer the shrimp from the pan to a separate plate and set them aside.

Stir the orzo occasionally while it simmers and check it a minute or two before the suggested cooking time. Orzo absorbs liquid quickly, so once it is al dente, remove the pan from the heat and stir in the cream and cheese immediately — the residual heat will finish the cooking.
Absolutely. Thaw frozen shrimp completely in the refrigerator overnight or under cold running water for about 10 minutes. Pat them very dry with paper towels before cooking — excess moisture prevents the shrimp from getting a nice sear.
The orzo and sauce can be prepared a day ahead and stored in the refrigerator. Reheat gently on the stovetop with a splash of water or broth, since orzo absorbs liquid as it sits. Cook and add the shrimp fresh just before serving for the best texture.
Beyond spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, roasted bell peppers, artichoke hearts, or asparagus tips all work beautifully. Add heartier vegetables earlier in the cooking process and tender greens at the very end so they stay vibrant.
