Here’s a description of each ingredient used in the revised Teriyaki Tofu recipe:

Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). This step ensures that the oven is at the right temperature to bake the tofu to perfection.
Take a block of firm or extra-firm tofu and crumble it into bite-sized pieces. Place the crumbled tofu into a bowl. To create a delightful crispy texture, generously coat the tofu pieces with a mixture of cornstarch and olive oil. This coating will result in a lovely golden exterior and slight crispiness when baked. Once evenly coated, spread the tofu on a baking sheet.
Place the baking sheet with the coated tofu in the preheated oven. Bake for approximately 15 minutes, or until the tofu transforms into a beautiful golden color with a subtle crispiness. This baking process enhances the tofu’s texture and prepares it to absorb the wonderful teriyaki sauce.
In a separate bowl, blend together soy sauce, honey, powdered ginger, ketchup, and minced garlic. This mixture combines savory, sweet, and aromatic elements for a delightful teriyaki sauce that will complement the tofu perfectly.

Tofu is considered by many to be a healthier alternative to meat in several respects. Here are some reasons why tofu is often perceived as a better option than certain types of meat:
It’s important to note that while tofu can be a healthy and nutritious choice, the comparison between tofu and meat isn’t absolute. The healthiness of tofu versus meat depends on the specific type of meat, how it’s prepared, and individual dietary preferences and needs. Some lean cuts of meat can be part of a balanced diet, and people often choose tofu for its plant-based, lower-fat, and lower-cholesterol qualities.

As a personal chef who specializes in dietary accommodations, I always encourage my clients to adapt recipes to their individual needs. Here are some practical variations for this recipe:
The most common reason is excess moisture. Press the tofu for at least 20–30 minutes before crumbling to remove as much water as possible. Make sure the cornstarch coating is even and the tofu pieces are spread out in a single layer on the baking sheet without crowding.
For this recipe, firm or extra-firm tofu is essential. Silken and soft tofu have too much moisture and will not hold their shape when crumbled and baked. They are better suited for smoothies, sauces, or desserts.
Yes! Air-frying works beautifully and makes the tofu even crispier. Toss the cornstarch-coated tofu with a light spray of oil and air-fry at 375°F for 12–15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through.
Store the tofu and sauce separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, warm the tofu in the oven or air fryer at 375°F for 5–7 minutes to restore crispiness, then toss with the reheated sauce.
